Ministry In The Marketplace

Learning to minister within your current workplace.

A note of encouragement.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19).

Reader, do you ever feel like you have to go on a mission trip in order to fulfill your Christian calling regarding Matthew 28? Do you feel like you can’t minister unless you’re a pastor, small group leader, or missionary?

Your Personal Note of Encouragement

Let me encourage you today, Reader: you are made for such a time as this (Esther 4:14b), you have been placed where you are for a reason, and you can illuminate the love of God in any room you enter into.

The Lord knew who would interact with you today, what authorities would be placed over you, and what mentees would be placed under you.

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly….show hospitality to one another without grumbling,” (1 Peter 4:9a-10).

Peter goes on to write this, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, [be] one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, [be] one who serves by the strength that God supplies — in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

You have been given a gift, a set of skills that only you can utilize for the Kingdom of Heaven. Your strengths are tailored to you; your calling is unique.

A Commissioning Prayer

Let’s try an experiment: replace some of the words of the scripture above and tailor it to your giftings.

For example:

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever sings, [be] one who sings to God; whoever paints, [be] one who paints the beauty of creation by the strength that God supplies — in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Let’s do another:

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever coaches, [be] one who coaches the truths of God; whoever manages in an office building, [be] one who manages with patience and compassion by the strength that God supplies — in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Insert your mission within your industry, your God given job, and speak this commissioning prayer aloud as a word of encouragement:

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever ________, [be] as one who ________ of God; whoever _______, [be] as one who______ by the strength that God supplies — in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Closing Statement

As Christians, we are to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19a), and that also means making disciples in all industries, all workplaces, where you are placed now.

Take heart, Reader, for in your classroom, campus, corporate building, studio, lunch break, church, and janitor closet, the Lord is “with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b).

Sincerely,

Faith Ignite
