Trusting God Even Without Clarity
A conversation between Geoffrey Graff, guest; and Devaughn Williamson, host.
Trusting God isn’t always easy—especially when you don’t have all the answers. Geoffrey Graff’s story is one of faith, uncertainty, and ultimately, God’s provision. He grew up in a long line of pastors, but he never really planned on following in their footsteps. In fact, he wanted to be an architect. But God had other plans. When he was 17, he had a powerful moment where the Word of God became real to him, and he knew he was called to make it come alive for others. That moment changed everything for him.
Fast forward a few years—he’s pastoring at his home church, and things are booming. Youth ministry is thriving, lives are changing, and by all accounts, everything looks amazing. But deep down, Geoffrey and his wife Eden feel this tug, this undeniable sense that they’re meant for something different. It doesn’t make sense—they’re in a great place, financially stable (Eden was running a successful medical practice), and yet, they knew God was calling them to leave it all behind. And that’s the crazy part—God didn’t give them a step-by-step plan. He didn’t lay it all out. He just said, “Go.” And they had to trust. Trusting God’s plan meant leaving behind financial stability, security, and everything familiar. And that’s the challenge—taking a leap of faith without a clear roadmap.
Geoffrey is open about his struggles—balancing work and rest, overcoming burnout, and learning that his worth isn’t in how hard he grinds but in his relationship with God. He shares wisdom from his dad about taking breaks emphasizing that trusting God with our time leads to greater blessings than overworking ourselves. The idea is simple: take a day off every week, an extra day every six weeks, and a vacation every six months. Why? Because trusting God with our time is just as important as trusting Him with our finances. If we believe giving 10% of our money to God blesses the rest, why wouldn’t giving Him a day of rest do the same? Faith over fear means believing that resting in God’s presence is just as powerful as working for His purpose.
The turning point in his story? God’s provision in the most unexpected ways. When he stepped out in faith to plant a church with no money and no people, God showed up. On the very first day of studying another church, a random guest speaker—who knew nothing about him—said Fayetteville needed a church and immediately handed him $12,000! Over the next few months, more unexpected donations rolled in, and people started committing to the vision before Geoffrey even moved. It was clear: God was making a way.
His biggest takeaway? Stop waiting for perfect clarity before stepping out in faith. Too often, we sit still, afraid to move because we don’t have all the answers. But trusting God means taking that first step even when we can’t see the whole path. Geoffrey encourages anyone wrestling with a big decision to trust that God is their Shepherd. Walking in faith isn’t about having a perfect plan—it’s about knowing that even if we make mistakes, God will guide us back.
One of the most powerful moments in his journey came when he was praying over Psalm 23. He realized that even if he made a wrong move, God would guide him back. That revelation changed everything—faith isn’t about having all the answers upfront, it’s about trusting that God is leading even when things aren’t clear.
Geoffrey learned that security isn’t in a steady job, familiar surroundings, or even in a well-thought-out plan. True security is in God alone. At the end of the day, Geoffrey’s story is a powerful reminder that when we truly trust God, He provides in ways we could never imagine. If you’re in a season of uncertainty, wondering what’s next, take heart—God’s plan for your life is greater than you can see right now. Trusting God in the unknown may feel scary, but it’s in those moments that faith grows the most.
If Geoffrey’s story moved you, consider sharing it with someone who needs encouragement. And I encourage you to partner with Faith Ignite to help bring more stories of hope to the world. Together, we can spread messages of God's faithfulness to those who need it most.
